About
Welcome!
Here at Flora and Fauna Learning Center SPC, we strive to provide a variety of age appropriate experiences and activities inside and outside of the classroom that center around universal concepts with a heavy emphasis on our play and interactions within the natural world, defined loosely as all things existing in nature that are not made or caused by humans. Developmentally appropriate activities and experiences will vary class to class as we encourage our staff and volunteers to teach who they are, a pedagogy that encourages individuals to bring their unique experiences to the table. For example, Owner and Director Darian Havens is uniquely suited to delve into outdoor enrichment, play, and exploration with children after over a decade of being a program supervisor and lead forest school teacher in profession and forager and gardener in their personal life. Our team consists of a collaborative community of individuals skilled in a variety of areas including but not limited to the arts, academics, business, and early child care working together to create a space where the whole child is safe to grow and thrive authentically.
It takes a village.
By working collaboratively each care team attunes to the individual, family, and community needs of each cohort through daily interaction and observation within the classroom, weekly meeting and discussion, and monthly assessment and planning outside of the classroom. Emphasizing community values and community care ensures that each child has not only a team of caregivers looking out for their needs but also a community of learners they can work and grow with. An open ended style of care means that the methods employed, activities and enrichment opportunities sought out, and concepts explored are unique to each cohort to support development of the whole child within a community.
S.T.E.A.M.
Science, Technology, Engineering, ARTS, and Math are a crucial part of Early Childhood Education. At Flora and Fauna we will conduct weekly if not daily activities with the children in our care that include hands-on experiential learning opportunities to explore these areas.

Garden Program
Gardening in a preschool setting fosters the development of math, science, and pre-reading skills in a hands-on way.
On Site we have four 4*4 raised vegetable garden beds with trellises, a big rock garden bed for growing corn, beans, and squash together, 3 wildflower garden beds, a bluberry patch, a raspberry patch, and fruit trees.
Creation Station
Our art centers are not only equipped with the staples found in any preschool program but also include a variety of materials including but not limited to seeds, ribbons, cardboard, pipe cleaners, beads, strings, and more!
The inclusion of these materials allows for children to develop refined fine motor, problem solving, collaborative, and more skills as they create objects they may find in their everyday life.
