Sarah Tarr

Kindergarten Prep Program | She/Her

As the eldest sibling, Sarah did a lot of babysitting for her cousins and for her mom’s colleagues when she was young. She quickly found her passion for teaching when she realized how empowering it was to the many children that she babysat when she was able to teach them how to engage with the world around them. While obtaining her BA in Education from Washington State University, Sarah worked in a child care center as an assistant and a lead teacher in which she assisted students after school with homework, created lesson plans that fostered their learning through play and creative artwork, and worked alongside their learners as a play partner whilst engaging in creative, hands-on learning in indoor and outdoor classroom environments. During her time at Washington State University, Sarah volunteered with the civic engagement program assisting with after school programs. As volunteers, they engaged in fun outdoor play with the students.

He believes in a compassionate, child-led, relationship-driven approach to early childhood education, and he’s worked in a variety of settings including Montessori, after school volunteering, and academically focused preschool. Most recently, Wren spent three years as the 3-year-old teacher in a school in Missoula before moving to Washington. In his free time, Wren enjoys building Lego sets, making art, and spending time with his two cats

Amy Havens

Consultant  |  She/Her

Amy, now 'retired', played an integral role in the emerging field of Early Childhood Care and Education in Spokane. Amy obtained a BA in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business Administration in 1997 while raising two children under 5.  Amy became frustrated with the lack of quality Early Childhood Care spaces and spaces for children in general in the Spokane area while working in the field of Criminal Justice with children and families. In 2001 she opened Child Haven Learning Center and in 2003 she founded Child Haven Learning Center at Northwood. Through these years Amy worked with and served a countless number of families while navigating the ever changing field of Early Childhood in Washington State. By 2019, Amy had sold both business licenses and continued to serve as a mentor and consultant to a variety of Early Childhood Spaces across Spokane County and beyond informing state policy and practices from a business lens.
